SHARP Tri-City Medical Center Emergency Department

City of Oceanside, California

The 6,000-square-foot walk-in emergency department renovation focused on improving the patient experience through enhanced waiting areas, streamlined circulation, and increased privacy. The design incorporated a reconfigured waiting room, check-in bays, triage areas, sub-waiting spaces, and additional exam rooms to support efficient patient flow and optimize departmental functionality.

“Walking through the newly remodeled Emergency Department at Tri-City Medical Center was a remarkable experience. What struck me immediately was what it did not feel like. It did not feel like an emergency department. Instead, the space felt serene, calming, and intentionally designed to promote healing. Soft lighting, soothing colors, thoughtfully selected imagery, and modern finishes transformed what is traditionally a high-stress environment into one that feels therapeutic and welcoming. Even during what would normally be considered a busy period in the Emergency Department, the atmosphere was unexpectedly peaceful. The noise and chaos often associated with emergency care had been replaced by a sense of quiet calm. At times, it felt more like walking through a library than a hospital emergency room.  Equally impressive was the impact the environment appeared to have on the people within it. Staff members were smiling, engaged, and energized. Patients appeared more relaxed and comfortable. Families seemed at ease. The entire space fostered a sense of dignity, compassion, and healing. This transformation represents far more than a physical renovation. It demonstrates Tri-City Medical Center's commitment to creating an exceptional patient experience while providing high-quality emergency care in an environment designed around comfort, wellness, and humanity.

The result is truly spectacular—a modern Emergency Department that not only delivers outstanding clinical care but also creates a calming, healing experience for every patient, family member, physician, nurse, and staff member who walks through its doors.”

“I just want to express my profound gratitude to all those involved in making the remodeling of our ER department at Tri-City Medical Center a reality. I work as a Hospitalist and as part of my job I come to the ER multiple times a day to interview and examine patients being admitted. It has been a joy to see the difference to the wellbeing of our patients. The first time I came to the ER after the remodeling, I was quite impressed since the difference was astounding. The new ER displays a much more welcoming environment, with soothing colors of the walls, easier flow to the patients, all contributing to a better experience for those in the department. This is not only for the patients but also for the staff as well.  It has had a tremendous impact for the nurses and physicians working side by side in a much more welcoming environment. It has been refreshing and for all those reasons, I THANK YOU!  Job well done!!”
